Reconstruction Underway for Landslide-Damaged Road in Addis Ababa

The Addis Ababa City Roads Authority has commenced reconstruction works on a road section that was severely damaged by a landslide in the area commonly known as “Birchiko,” within a condominium residential compound.

According to Engineer Simeon Getachew, Team Leader of the West Addis Ababa Road Maintenance Construction Unit, the affected road section, which has been out of service for over a year due to the landslide, is currently being rebuilt to restore its functionality.

The project involves the complete reconstruction of approximately 130 meters of the damaged road segment. The works also include critical slope stabilization (back slope) measures to ensure long-term structural safety and prevent future incidents.

It is recalled that the “Birchiko” condominium neighborhood and its surrounding areas experienced significant infrastructure damage following a landslide that occurred about a year ago, affecting road accessibility and mobility.

The ongoing reconstruction is expected to reinstate safe and reliable transport services for residents and improve overall connectivity in the area.
