In the first quarter of the 2019 Ethiopian calendar year, the Addis Ababa City Roads Authority planned to execute 228 kilometers of various road construction and maintenance works. Surpassing the initial target, the Authority successfully completed 266 kilometers of construction and repair projects.
During this quarter, 46 kilometers of diverse road construction was undertaken, comprising:

-
12 km of gravel road construction
-
10 km of cobblestone paving
Additionally, infrastructure developments included 7 kilometers of pedestrian walkways, 1 kilometer of stormwater drainage channels, and over 1 kilometer of dedicated bicycle lanes.
To maintain the safety and integrity of the city's existing road network, damaged roads underwent structural repairs. Under its maintenance domain, the Authority rendered the following operational:
-
16 km of asphalt road maintenance
-
5 km of gravel road repairs
-
166 km of drainage line cleaning and restoration
-
5.7 km of walkway repairs and curbstone fitting
Furthermore, over 26 kilometers of pedestrian guardrail renovation and painting, along with auxiliary road infrastructure works, were successfully accomplished during the quarter.
The institution's first-quarter performance was evaluated across various operational tiers—at the department, sector, and institutional levels—through a series of review forums resulting in a shared consensus. Moving forward, the Director-General directed teams to expedite the completion of ongoing road projects in addition to new construction projects scheduled to commence shortly.
